Youth Social Skills

Social skills and good manners are essential to maintain good and healthy relations with those around us and resolve conflicts. It teaches us that other people matter, and they deserve respect and kindness. Social skills and manners also helps kids find their place in society and make connections with other people. These skills start developing since childhood and it is highly influenced by the relationship between the child and people who care for the child, it will continue to develop through the years based on the different experiences they have with their peers, teachers, family and society. Social skills are an essential part of a children’s adaptation to the different environment in which they develop: family, school, friends, society… the level of skills the child has can make facilitate adaptation ir make it difficult, affecting their self-image and self-confidence. During the adolescence years, social skills have a fundamental importance. It is an age of changes and transitions, when boys and girls develop their personality and when friendship become more important. Young people who have knowledge on social skills and etiquette tend to have higher confidence and feel comfortable in new situations or settings. It is particularly important for adolescents to have that confidence, because at that age they are getting ready for the road ahead which can cause high levels of anxiety, they can feel nervous and have problems relating to others or acclimating to new settings, and this can lead to shyness, insecurity and isolation.
